Waterfront
Messina
The Masterplan for the waterfront of Messina reconstructs a coast line 2.360-meters long with a total surface of 828.200 m2. The redevelopment of the area has been neglected since the earthquake of 1909 and the area in this moment is occupied by a mix of activities, illegal constructions and chaotic attempts of urban requalification. The importance of the project does not come from its scale, but especially from the natural environment and historical context. Restoring the relationship between the city and the sea is of course the most important issue for the urban quality of Messina. To give back to the inhabitants a beautiful and approachable seaside is essential for the future of Messina.
